THE BIG IDEA

Artistic Insomnia

Tinubu Sleeping

I was yesterday years old when I figured that the best time to work as a creative is when you feel sleepy. Well, according to this piece I just read.

Don't we just learn every day?

Apparently, the famous painter & sculptor, Pablo Picasso consistently created such incredible art as a result of his nocturnal work habits.

He would arrive at his studio around 2 p.m. Work until he was hungry. Break for dinner. Return to his studio around 10 p.m. Then, get back to work until 4 or 5 a.m. These manic nightshifts led to him averaging roughly 3 new pieces of art a day. Or, night rather.

Some psychologists have also confirmed the link between creativity and sleepiness. They say a drowsy mind is better at forming fresh connections between unconnected ideas, fostering creativity by letting random thoughts flow more freely.

In simple english, the sleepier you are, the freer your brain can think.

(Think about all the random shit that floods your mind anytime you switch off the lights, settle into bed, and allow yourself gradually drift off to sleep..…)

Working at night also offers the solitude many creatives crave. At least you get no disturbances from nosy colleagues. And your phone’s not constantly buzzing with Slack messages or ‘quick’ work calls… Eeerr, I assume.

So yes, you can go ahead to tell your boss…

Dear Sir/Ma,

CareerBuddy Research says I should stop working during the day and start working at night. As such, I won’t be at work tomorrow.

Peace ✌🏾

But if you sleep off, YOUR GOD IS WITH YOU.
