In this article, seasoned resume writer, speaker, and consultant, Donna Svei shared five LinkedIn red flags that make recruiters scroll past your LinkedIn profile. You should go read it, but here's a sneak peek, and they are helpful practices you should imbibe if you are job-hunting;

  1. Showing employers that you only work from home is a huge red flag! Yes, remote jobs are on the rise, but boxing yourself simply shows that you are rigid. In Donna Svei's words: "If your profile says you work only from home, some employers will write you off before considering you".

  2. Your headline matters! It's probably the most visible part of your profile and what pulls them to read the entire profile.  Svei recommends starting with your desired job title, showcasing your expertise, and adding some intrigue.

  3. You have skills? then show the proof! Skills are replacing degrees on recruitment desks globally, and you don't want to exaggerate or appear like you are merely fabricating yours.

  4. Flirt! Flirt openly! I mean, express your interest. There are many ways to do this and put yourself right in front of recruiters' faces. No one would notice you if you don't show you're interested in getting a job.

  5. Your LinkedIn profile and CV should include consistent data. From titles and dates to names and details, your LinkedIn profile and CV should carry the soul of one personality—YOU!
