You’ve probably heard the gist of the guy who got sacked because he kept wondering why his boss liked to “take the team around a circle” instead of going straight. Funny, but sad.
And he wasn’t the only one.
My friend also got sacked early in his career because he couldn’t send a report to a client at the agreed time. Let me explain...
He had finished the report and sent it to his team lead for approval. His team lead read it and replied, “GTG.”
Emma saw the message and thought she had made a mistake.
“She probably meant to send her GTB bank details to someone else,” he thought.
So while he waited for a spelt out approval, the deadline passed, the team lost the client, and Emma had to go.
So yes, not being familiar with corporate lingo can be a pretty big deal, depending on where you find yourself.
