Hey, Workie!

You know how this year everyone collectively agreed that the motto for the year would be “no gree for anybody”? Well, it seems some people didn’t get the memo because this whole Omah Lay wahala is bursting my brain.

I personally would have been on Omah Lay’s neck faster than the speed of light, but hey, maybe I took our 2024 motto a bit too seriously.

CORPORATE BANTS

I Must Not Die Working!

I just saw an article about how Gen X’rs are worried about not being able to retire because they wouldn’t be able to survive financially if they stopped working and all I know is I must not be singing the same tune when I get there!

In case you didn't know, Gen X'ers fall between the ages of 43 and 59 right now. They were sold this whole boomer dream of  ‘‘staying loyal to one company your whole corporate journey and living off your retirement fund after.’’ But let's face it - that model doesn’t work in today’s corporate world.

Now, you’re probably wondering what you have to do so you won’t have to work till the day you die, and I’m about to put you on to some insane cheat codes, so get your jotter out and take notes.

  1. Invest, Invest, Invest: You’ve probably heard this a million times but honestly investing young could save you from having to break your back working forever. Apps like Bamboo and Piggyvest are extremely helpful for beginners looking to escape Sapa.

  2. Save Aggressively: The rule of thumb is to try to save at least 15-20% of your income every month so you’ll never really be broke. Apps like SumoTrust can be really helpful with this. Save today, play tomorrow!

  3. Diversify Your Income: A corporate job alone just doesn’t cut it anymore, and unless you want to be working forever, you should definitely learn a trade, pick up a side hustle, or both!

AMATEUR HOUR

This Babe’s Boss Was Stealing From Her

Imagine being paid literal chicken change and still being expected to put in the utmost effort, and to top it all off, her boss was stealing out of her pay as well. Talk about a job from hell.

SIDEHUSTLE SPOTLIGHT

Online Tutoring

So, what exactly is Online Tutoring?

Online tutoring is basically providing academic or professional guidance and support to people on the internet. Unlike traditional in-person tutoring, it happens virtually, and connects educators and learners regardless of their physical location.

So, if you’re smart and patient, this might be just the side hustle for you. Plus: You could be paid in dollars (in Tinubu’s economy, that’s a need).

This side hustle is for you if:

  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • You’re patient and accommodating with people.

  • You’re able to efficiently manage your own time and work independently without close supervision.

  • You’re well-versed in a number of academic disciplines or a specific discipline.
