You know, April Fools’ Day used to be innocent pranks like putting salt in someone's tea. But this year, it wasn’t just individuals pulling pranks. Even brands pranked their customers.
Let me share some of the hilarious ones from this year;
- First up, Auntie Anne's, a pastry brand, made everyone think they were closing their stores. But it was just a trick to announce their new app for easier ordering.
- Then there's Durex, the company famous for, well, you know. They pretended to launch an energy drink with flavors like dragonfruit and coconut. And a lot of people got fooled.
- Starbucks didn't miss out on the April Fools’ fun either. They teased their fans about a new drink and people were excited. Turns out it was a concoction! Starbucks got us good.
- Lastly, what if you were told you could finally perceive fragrances or perfumes online with AI? That was what Poundland pulled on us, I tried sniffing and ended up looking like a fool. It worked.
These pranks had me thinking about how sometimes, sales and marketing is all about being creative and knowing your audience. Adding humor to your marketing can grab attention, start conversations, and help you connect with your customers.

I remember spending a few months learning about my niche customer and their core problems. Once I started to spot the patterns it made everything easier. I started getting more leads and people started saying things like:
‘This is exactly what I need’ ‘I saw your website and had to book a call’
I honestly thought it wouldn’t work that well. But here’s the most memorable moment for me: I started closing $3k, $5k and even $10k projects with one call. No follow-ups, no proposals and barely any delay between jumping on a call and getting started.
