THE BIG IDEA

Revelation Time

When you hear the phrase “Just do it”, what's the first thing that comes to your mind? If your reply was Nike, raise your hand for a virtual hi-five!

Recently, I read an article from HubSpot titled ‘30 Hidden Messages In Logos of Notable Brands’ and it reminded not just me, but everyone; that there's more to a brand logo than design.

For example, for Toyota, HubSpot says

The two interlocking ovals represent the trust and mutual benefit shared between Toyota and its customers, while the outer oval represents the brand's global reach and impact. Additionally, the ovals also form a letter “T,” which symbolizes trust or Toyota — depending on who you ask.

Who would have guessed that?!

This also means that if your brand logo is simply a design, you need to do some serious introspection.

And if this one caught you off-guard, imagine what Amazon, Pinterest, Unilever, and Adidas logos say…

STORY OF THE WEEK

My Worst Job Made Me A Better Copywriter

That summer was a terrible recession, and it was really hard to find a temporary summer job. I finally found a job as a telemarketer for a waterproofing company.

I was told my goal was to get at least 3 of these leads each day. (Meanwhile, during those first few days, I saw various co-workers suddenly called into the manager’s office, only to be fired and ushered out the front door.)

The third day as soon as I walked in the door that morning, the manager called me into her office. I figured that was it…I was going to be told I’m fired.

But instead, I got a warning. She told me if I didn’t get at least 3 leads that day, I was gone…
