Have you ever stalled on working on a project only for NEPA to take the light when you finally decided to work on it? What’s worse… It was only then that you realized your gadgets were low on power!

Truth is, as a Nigerian remote worker, you can see your village people’s fingerprints on everything from the most complicated to the basic issues and activities in your life. And your remote job is not even excluded. If you’re feeling like you and remote work were just not meant to be, it might be your village people at work.

And so I thought to visit your village. Wait, what did you expect? How else do you think I would be able to recommend an escape route if I don’t know them?

Let me run you through 5 proven ways to escape your village people as a Nigerian remote worker before they get you.

5 Proven Ways to Escape Your Village People as a Nigerian Remote Worker

  1. Resist The Urge To Work On Your Bed

This one is hard because working in bed can get really comfortable. Your smart village people know this and that’s just the reason why they’d want to use this approach. If you try to work on your bed or the couch, it probably won’t take long before you started dozing off! So my dear, invest in a good desk and chair, even if it’s small and compact.

  1. Slay To Your Workspace

You didn’t think you could mislead your village people, did you? Come closer, and let me give you the gist. See, your village people know that you’ll most likely work in your pajamas. So dress up to mislead them. You don’t have to wear a suit at your desk at home, but changing out of the clothing you slept in is always a good idea.

Here’s what. Every time they send their delivery man to disturb you, he’ll be confused seeing you all dressed up and think you no longer work a remote job and go back. Now guess what? Your village will have no clue their mission failed because ZIKOKO has hinted to us that they don’t get delivery reports. High five!

  1. Don’t Be Caught Snoozing

Your village people and their funny tactics though. Your network will be working just fine during a virtual meeting, and just when it’s your turn to speak, they disrupt your network.

Everyone now knows you as a person who can’t be understood because of a slow internet connection. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. To remain on top of work, get a mobile router or increase your smartphone service or internet speed. The goal is to always have a PLAN B for any technical difficulties that may arise. Do you get the gist?

  1. Stick To A Schedule

You may believe working from home is convenient because you can do your laundry or wash your dishes anytime until your village neighbors inspire you to do your laundry while listening in on a work call. Not a big deal, yeah? Oh, well! Wait until your mind drifts away, and you miss relevant information.

Staying focused will help you not only be a better employee but also get your tasks done quickly so you can sign off sooner in the evening.

Creating a routine and schedule that replicates the daily norms that guided you through a 9-to-5 office workweek might help you budget your time throughout the day to finish tasks within a set timeframe. So you don’t leave your village people laughing at you because it’s 10 p.m. and you have no idea where the time went.

  1. Pay Attention To The Mute and Video Buttons

Have you seen videos of folks who didn’t realize their videos were on during a virtual meeting and went to the restroom for some alone time? Talk about our dear village people in their element! When you are on that virtual meet on Zoom, Teams, or Google Meet, keep an eye on the mute and video buttons. Always double-check to be sure. I personally do this a lot. May our village people not get us.

Bottom Line

And there you have it. Just because we can’t leave you accepting defeat with a valid excuse that your village people are indeed following and controlling you.
