Hey, Workie!

Sometime this week, I was scrolling on TikTok, and I saw this guy talking about how he thinks NYSC should be scrapped completely, and I think he’s on to something.

Why do I have to graduate and suffer for a year straight after? But maybe I’m being dramatic.

What do you think?

CORPORATE BANTS

You Need To Tame Your Green-Eyed Monster

If there’s anything I know about entering the corporate space as a newbie, it’s that more often than not, you find yourself comparing your progress to other people’s progress, and that can be really bad for your mental health.

It could even get to a point where you hate seeing every “I’m excited to announce...” post on LinkedIn because it makes you feel like you’re behind. If you’ve ever felt that way, I promise you aren’t alone.

You’re probably wondering how to overcome these feelings, and the best and admittedly most cliche advice I can give you is to realize that you aren’t in competition with anyone but yourself, and therefore, you can’t put yourself on anyone else’s timeline.

There are a lot of things you could do to stop yourself from resenting other people’s success:

  1. Stop seeing success as a zero-sum game: you need to remember that someone else’s success isn’t your failure.

  2. Stop comparing yourself to other people: you aren’t and will never be someone else, so stop weighing your success based on someone else’s timeline.

  3. Cultivate a growth mindset: if you’re going to compare, at least make it constructive. Look yourself in the mirror and be honest with yourself about where exactly you fall short and how you could be better.
