THE BIG IDEA

How To Manage Remote Gen-Z Teams

One question that troubles every manager is engaging younger staff in delivering efficient work without them becoming bored.

Do I make the workplace lively? Should I make deadlines more flexible? Should we have more holidays? Should we have more physical meetups? Should we throw more parties?

Though throwing more Parties is not a bad idea, it is not cost-effective in the long run.

How on earth do you keep these Gen Zs in their seats long enough to get the actual work done? Especially when they are working remotely.

  1. Add Meaning To Their Work:

It is not just about salary increases. It is about adding meaning to their day-to-day tasks. True, not everyone’s task would be to change the world (and everyone is tired of your Monday morning pep talk) but in their own little way, Gen Zs would like to know that their everyday work is making a difference in the real world.

They would like to know that at the end of the day, as they lay their head down, they have made their tiny little difference in the world. Without meaning, it would just be an endless circle of working monotonously on the boring design. Thus, as much as possible, try to add meaning to their work.

  1. Be Upfront. No Bluff.

Truth is Gen Zs have taken enough bluff to actually see through you. How urgently do you need the task? Can it wait or do you just want it completed? Be straightforward with them. When they know you respect them enough to tell them the true position of things, they will be willing to go the extra mile for you.

And don’t make the mistake of assuming they are kids. You may not like what you get in return.

  1. And A Secret Spice Is To “Give Them Responsibility”. That’s What They Fear The Most And Desire The Most.

Giving Responsibility to your Gen Z employees actually gets you a new employee – a loyal one! There is nothing that a Gen Z fears so much yet wants so much as responsibility.

Thus, working with remote Gen Z Teams does not have to be difficult.  Your dream team can make your dream exist.

HR Insights Featuring TLNT

Meet The Man Who Wants To Hire Someone To Retire…

In an exclusive interview with TLNT, Holland explains what he’s doing; The person who gets the job will immediately be asked to retire.

The advert wants to find the company’s first-ever ‘chief retirement officer’.

Another quirk of this particular job is that applicants apply by literally ‘resigning’ from their current job.

In one person’s ‘resignation’, an applicant wrote: “It is with absolute giddiness that I submit this letter of resignation. I have chosen, at the ripe age of 34, to transition to a life of retirement. The years of mind-numbing spreadsheets, stomach-churning corporate jargon, crappy office coffee, and anxiety-inducing ice-breaker exercises have completely burnt me out.

This applicant continues: “I’d love nothing more than to never “circle back”, “connect”, or “align” with any of you ever again. You are all lovely people, but life is not meant to be lived in a…
