I have this intern who started working with me weeks ago, and I have never been put in a situation where my emotional intelligence is greatly tested. I’d tell you what happened, and I hope to get your feedback.

Maybe AI isn’t As Great As we Think
So, here’s what happened…
As part of his onboarding, when he resumed a few weeks ago, I showed him how to use ChatGPT to optimize work. Fast-forward to yesterday, I requested an email to pitch to potential partners, after several attempts at crafting good email content.
He sent it this morning and reading it, I'm beginning to think it was a mistake to have introduced him to using AI. He copied directly and what he sent me could put a client off even from the subject alone.
But was it really a mistake to have entrusted such a tool to someone who lacks the expertise to handle it? Because with all the fuss about how AI can be a productivity multiplier and all that hype everyone is giving it, I’m starting to have doubts!
On one hand, a significant multitude of employees use generative AI at work to yield better output but are too ashamed to admit it as it may diminish the credibility of their work. On another, a group of incompetent individuals uses it to save face and take full credit for the creativity their brains could not have captured.
Then I stumbled upon this article that talks about the future of work not being tech but human identity - and I can’t help but wonder; “where are we sef?”
We have seen other technologies breeze in and out as soon as they arrived, but AI seems to have come to stay.
Should we openly allow our employees to harness the possibilities it could bring? Or should we shut the rails against its use? After all, why pay them when an AI is performing tasks in their place?
Now, I have written the email myself and decided to give him one more week of trial. However, this issue still poses an increasing concern in the workplace. Our backgrounds, perspectives, and belief systems influence how open we are individually receptive to AI.
So, what do you think? Do the pros outweigh the cons? I would love to know.
