Reinventing Company Culture
I especially love how April Armstrong defines company culture; In her words, “it is the unwritten, unspoken norms that drive the behaviour of how people work together, coexist together and get things done.”
She isn’t the only one who feels this way. Kathryn Minshew, the co-founder of the job search and career advice platform The Muse, agrees with this definition in her talk at the YCombinator’s Women Founder Conference.
But today isn’t about April or Kathryn, it’s about “Culture”
Research shows that 88% of employees believe strong company culture is key to business success and a culture that attracts high-calibre employees leads to a 33% revenue increase.
I do like the sound of “revenue increase” and I’m up for anything that will raise those numbers, especially when it’s budget-friendly - don’t you agree?
So let’s take a look at some strategies you can start implementing ASAP to improve your company culture - and ultimately increase your revenue 😉
First, let’s Conduct a Culture Audit
Periodic culture audits are indispensable because they are truth-finders. The purpose is to identify any gaps that may exist between your existing culture and the culture you aspire to cultivate. This evaluation should be performed at various levels, including teams, departments, and the organization as a whole.

Then, Recognize and Appreciate Outstanding Employees
Studies consistently demonstrate that recognition is a powerful motivator, with 69% of employees expressing a willingness to work harder when they receive acknowledgement for their contributions.
Recognition need not be reserved for annual events alone, such as the company's annual dinner. You can create a culture of appreciation by incorporating regular recognition into your weekly meetings.
At CareerBuddy, we dedicate time during our weekly meetings for "shoutouts," enabling team members to express gratitude and appreciation for colleagues and teams who have excelled in their work. This simple practice nurtures a sense of ownership and pride among team members.
Finally, Hire for Culture Add
While many companies emphasize the importance of hiring for culture fit, it is worth considering the concept of "culture add." Rather than solely focusing on finding candidates who fit seamlessly into the existing culture, aim to recruit individuals who will contribute value and enrich your culture. Look for individuals who bring unique perspectives, diverse skills, and a contagious drive that ignites passion and inspires the entire team. These individuals have the potential to infuse your organization with fresh ideas and invigorate your team's dynamics.
