Hey, Workie!

So, yesterday one of my lecturers said.. “90% of my students are nincompoops and 95% of degrees are useless.” I didn’t believe my ears, but I guess in simpler terms SCHOOL NA SCAM!

Good thing we’re hacking the system one Saturday at a time, so that one is for his pocket.

CORPORATE BANTS

Open Your Mouth Or SAPA Will Finish You!

Not too long ago, one of my friends started an internship. She was working like a full-time employee, pouring her heart and soul into the work. The catch? She was doing it all for FREE! When she finally brought up the topic of payment, she was let go.

Now, what’s the lesson here? Always be upfront about your stance on pay! Internship or not, express your needs clearly and completely.

Apparently, 56% of candidates don’t negotiate salary offers and I'm here to make sure you're not part of that statistic. So, listen up.

See, I get it. Money talks can be uncomfortable, especially when you're just starting out. But remember, you deserve to be paid for your efforts, and there's nothing wrong with saying so.

Wondering how to negotiate with little to no experience? Well, I’m going to let you in on everything you need to know in 5 simple steps:

  1. Research: First and foremost, you need to find out exactly how much people with similar capabilities and job titles earn so that you can make an informed argument for yourself.
  2. Be Confident: If you need to practice what you’re going to say to convince yourself you deserve more, then do it as many times as possible. Never sound unsure of yourself, because you can’t convince anyone if you aren’t convinced as well.
  3. Do Not Apologize: A lot of people feel bad for bringing up salary expectations or asking for raises, let me just tell you now, it’s not rude, and asking for what you feel like you’re owed is completely fine so DON’T SAY SORRY!!!
  4. Be Willing to Compromise: Getting a counteroffer isn’t the end of the world, and sometimes employers have valid reasons for not being able to meet all your needs but keep an open mind and don’t be discouraged.
  5. Look Beyond Salary: If all else fails, consider other perks like vacation time, reimbursement for things like data and transportation and other little bonuses that could sweeten the deal for you.

Now that you know your rights, are you jazzing up or are you going to keep sweating for free?

You can find the detailed tea on how to negotiate as an entry-level professional right here!

Another day, another story that proves school is lowkey a scam.

All because this babe was sharp in school and was active in almost everything, she got a job in a field completely unrelated to her course and all she had to do was play up her skills.
