A Casual Workplace?

According to a recent survey, Gen Zers are making workplaces more casual, not just in what they wear, but also in their attitudes and values.

These are the survey insights:

  • 75% of workers believe workplaces have become less formal
  • 63% think this shift is positive and boosts productivity
  • Casual dressing in the workplace is also on the rise

Why is this happening?

Gen Zers are redefining what professionalism means by focusing more on inclusiveness and authenticity. Moreover, because businesses want to stay competitive by attracting top talent, they are easily adapting to these changes.

The importance of business-casual dress codes in job postings has significantly dropped. In fact, most people agreed they would take a pay cut to have a flexible dress code.

A while back, this handler received a lot of backlash over a post about a Gen Z employee at his workplace; the majority supported the Gen Z individual.

In addition, compared to previous years, strict rules around mobile phone use and personal calls are loosening.

Given this shift, the big question is; How would you balance maintaining professionalism with adapting to modern expectations at your company?

The plaintiff took CVS Health Corporation and CVS Pharmacy, Inc. to court after he was not provided the option to refuse the use of the HireVue video interview technology or Affectiva’s artificial intelligence analysis program when he interviewed for a position with the organization in 2021.
