How to Win Back Top Talent

Have you ever had a great employee who decided to leave your organization?

It's a tough pill to swallow, but what if I told you that there's a chance they might come back?

Let me tell you a story;

A few years ago, I had an incredible team member who left to pursue other opportunities. We were sad to see her go, but we stayed in touch and remained supportive of her career journey. Fast forward to today, that same team member  returned to the organization as a boomerang employee, bringing with her valuable skills and fresh insights.

Boomerang employees are a growing trend in today's workforce and for good reason. They're already familiar with your company's culture and values, and they bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table.

Today, we'll explore some effective strategies for enticing departing talent to return as boomerang employees. In my opinion, it's worth it.

  1. Keep in Touch:

Losing a valuable employee can be a tough experience, but it doesn't have to be the end of your relationship. Endeavour to keep in touch with your former employees, whether through social media or email, and keep them updated on any exciting news or company updates. Show interest in their careers and be genuinely supportive of their aspirations. This can help create a positive impression of your company and make them more likely to consider returning.

  1. Conduct Exit Interviews:

When an employee decides to leave, it's important to understand why. Conducting exit interviews can help you identify areas of improvement and make changes to address their concerns. By showing that you value their feedback and are committed to making the workplace better, they may be more inclined to return.

  1. Offer Competitive Benefits:

It's important to offer competitive salaries, benefits, and work-life balance to retain and attract top talent. Be transparent about the perks and benefits offered, and be willing to negotiate on an individual basis. Consider offering benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off. Remember, happy employees are more likely to return.

  1. Foster a Positive Company Culture:

Company culture plays a huge role in employee satisfaction and retention. Ensure that your workplace is welcoming, supportive, and values diversity. Encourage team-building activities, offer opportunities for personal and professional growth, and create a sense of community among employees. A positive workplace culture can make all the difference in enticing boomerang employees to return.

---

Rehiring former employees can be a smart move for companies looking to strengthen their talent pool. Boomerang employees are familiar with your company culture and bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the table. By staying in touch, conducting exit interviews, offering competitive benefits, and fostering a positive company culture, you can entice departing talent to return. Remember, it's not just about filling a position; it's about building a strong, engaged workforce.

Why shorter days, not weeks, could be the answer to work-life balance

Companies continue to experiment with different working models, and for some, that’s not a four-day week but compressed six-hour workdays.

Experts say it can be a more feasible option for companies who can’t afford to have no one online on Fridays, while still giving their employees a more flexible schedule, at the same salary.
