GenZs are not as Hard to Manage as Presumed

I know,

It’s the dream of every team lead - hiring someone who just gets it.

And it can be frustrating when your team members don’t seem to. I’ve had my fair share of this struggle - especially when it comes to GenZs.

In fact, in the early part of last year, Emeka - a co-founder of a startup and also the Head of People and Culture - contacted us to help him find entry-level candidates for his company. On Instagram, he dramatically asked us to "pray for him" as he was about to hire his first Gen Z employee. Although he ultimately used our platform to recruit, he expressed concerns about working with Gen Zs due to their reputation for being difficult to manage. While their reputation isn't entirely negative, corporate gossip would have you believe that Gen Z employees can be a handful - although the extent of this depends on individual perspectives.

I wouldn’t say GenZs are “entirely” difficult to manage, rather I would say it would require a complete mindset shift from the traditional methods to understand and accommodate this new breed of the workforce.

You know the saying that saying goes, "Actions speak louder than words?”

Well, when it comes to Gen-Zs, words simply don't cut it. This generation defies traditional labelling and cannot be confined to any one definition or term. As a result, defining what a Gen-Z employee looks like is a challenging task, as each individual is evolving in their own unique way.

In today's world, building a successful company without hiring Gen Z employees is nearly impossible. They possess unparalleled expertise and curiosity in modern technology, making them essential to the future of digital culture. As a Founder, Head of Talent, or Team Lead, it is crucial to embrace the Gen Z work culture if you hope to establish a lasting brand.

Despite what you may have heard about Gen Zs, they are incredibly talented and many of them are excellent to work with. Look at successful startups and consult with those who have hired Gen Z employees, like Emeka, a co-founder who worked with us to hire a Gen Z team. Roughly 80% of their workforce is Gen Z, and they're performing well.
