Hey, Workie!

Did you know that AI is rejecting CV’s too now? So apparently, your CV could get rejected before a human even reads it just because it doesn’t include a couple of key words that match the job description. Crazy, I know.

Who knew AI could be such an enemy of progress?

P.S. This newsletter is for undergraduates and newbies in the corporate space. Know anyone who fit this description? Please share with them

CORPORATE BANTS

What You’re Posting Could Be Killing Your Chances Of Getting Hired

Social media gives me almost everything I need—the gossip, the news, and everything in between but my relationship with social media is very one-sided because it gives me everything I need while I give it just enough to not be a ghost, and that’s worked quite well for me so far.

Let’s be honest: if you aren’t a content creator or influencer, there’s simply no reason you should be posting every breath you take online, especially if you plan on having a normal job one day.

In all your dealings on social media, you have to be conscious of your digital footprint.

Your digital footprint is basically a trail of all the things you do online, like your tweets and TikTok posts. It’s really important that you keep your wits about you when deciding what to post online, and if you aren’t sure about something, just ask yourself whether you’d be embarrassed if a potential employer saw something, and if the answer is yes, then you probably shouldn’t be posting it.

If you’re not sure how bad your digital footprint is, here are some ways you can reduce it:

  • Delete old accounts: Don’t say you aren’t using a social media account anymore and leave it there; just delete it and avoid stories that touch the heart later on.

  • Delete any personal information you have online: Obviously, you know not to put things like your BVN online, but you should also reconsider putting things like your date of birth and mother’s maiden name online because it turns out people’s identities are being stolen that way these days.

  • Search for your name: Even though you aren’t a celebrity, it’s a good idea to google your name and see what comes up, to have an idea of what’s out there about you and figure out where to go from there.
